The bursting of the dot-com bubble in the fall 2001 marked a turning point of the web.  Businesses of all size really did not understand the true meaning of the internet.  Many invested millions of dollars even billions with many crashing during the dot-com bubbles.

The internet has changed the way businesses are done and the way people interact with one another.  The concept of web2.0 such as google adsense, blogging, wikipedia and social networking had made the world a smaller place to communicate.  Giants social sites like myspace, facebook and of course twitter have forever changed how mankind meet and socialize.

Now let’s talk about twitter.  Few years back the term twitter did not exist.  Why is twitter so embraced by people from all walks of life?  Well I think it is simple to use.  It takes les than five minutes get a FREE account and only 140 characters to post to friends and co-workers.  The free social networking and microblogging sites enable its users to send and read message known as tweets.

Text-base posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author’s profile page and deliver to the author’s subscribers who are known as followers.  Senders can restrict deliver to those in their circle of friends or by default, allow open access, users can send and receive tweets via the twitter website.

Since its creation in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, twitter has gained notability and popularity worldwide.  It is sometimes describes as “SMS Of The Internet” the use of twitter’s application programming interface for sending and receiving text messages by other applications.  Online media and TV are obsessed with twitter everyone talking about it can be found on major news station in the nation.

In conclusion, I love the internet and twitter.  It is fund, meeting new people and you can create great income as well.  The internet, web 2.0, and social networking has come a long way and constantly evolving to make communication easier for the world’s citizens.  Social networking sites like twitter is part of this evolution of human communication with no slowing down.  The question is, are you twittering?

Business Cards and Twitter

Business Cards and Twitter

Online communications has changed ever since the social network websites emerged on the net. Perhaps you’re already familiar with MySpace and Facebook. These are examples of social networking websites and next to them is Twitter. Twitter is not just about social networking; it is also about blogging.

Users of Twitter tend to think of the site as a big cocktail party that is open to public for 24 hours. You can talk about many things like your business, personal life, or even find potential employers and customers. Twitter is also about micro networking 24/7.

Even if you meet a lot of people through Twitter, they will remain strangers except when you exchange tweets often. It is not possible to exchange business details or cards online. If you want to get more information on someone, you need to be friends and he/she should respond to the tweets you’re sending. Tweets are short messages you can send via Twitter which are only 140 characters. On your profile page, you can put information about yourself but it is limited and you can also put some links. It will depend on the people that visit your profile page whether they will be interested or not.

Visit the site SpartX.com so you can create your own virtual card and exchange them on Twitter. The business cards are dynamic. The site will allow you to do a lot of things like leave the virtual card to an email together with a short message or leave the card on a chosen website. You don’t need to talk to people on Twitter anymore; just leave your card and they will know who you are and what you do. If they are interested, they can easily contact you.

The tweets can contain messages, greetings, or networking information. Virtual business cards are a way to go especially if you’re into some kind of business. You can put your business details on the card and your contact info. Before you start to leave off your virtual card to Twitter subscribers, make sure that you identify your target market first. That way, you will not be wasting your time with people who will not appreciate your business. Determine the target market first and study their needs. If you think your business can meet up with their expectations and needs, then promote your business and leave your card.

As mentioned earlier, you can also put links on your profile page. The links should lead to helpful resources or to your business site. That way, you can also generate traffic to your site. By providing helpful links, you’re showing others that you care about their needs. By doing so, you can also develop good relationships. A relationship based on trust and confidence lasts; if you can win your prospects, your business will succeed through Twitter.

Visit the website and create your own business cards. Virtual cards can help you stay connected at all times. It will take only a few minutes to create the virtual card. You can do this by filling out the resume or upload a document that will come together with your business card. You will receive a tangible card and a virtual card.

By driving contacts to SpartX, you can easily send your card to their email. If you want to be identified by yoru prospects, send business cards now.

Social Network Courtesy

Social Network Courtesy
By J Gay

If you are reading this you may be a member of one of the hundreds of social book marking network sites now available on the internet. No matter which social network sites you prefer, courtesy is needed everywhere. The two most popular ones right now seem to be Twitter and Facebook. Over the past 12 months Facebook has had a few security scares and I have known Twitter to have had to close down for a short spell due to a cyber attack.

It doesn’t matter which social network site you belong to, the same rules need to apply as to everywhere on the internet and that is to be very careful with your private information. Identity theft is always on the prowl so you need to follow every precautionary rule you’ve ever heard of. Your safety depends on it.

To be a courteous person doesn’t mean you are obliged to give out or share your private details. You really do need to be very careful about anyone who asks for them. If you know or trust the person, then it’s a different kettle of fish, but if someone asks you for private information out of the blue, be very leery. If you seriously doubt their good intentions, report them. Someone else may not be as wise as you.

There are innumerable products and services available for Twitter to increase your followers and I suggest taking great care before you simply press the follow button if you have been contacted by someone who has added you into their group.

One of the ways I was caught (and I hope it was the only way!) was to check the ‘follow’ button before looking at their page. Porn thrives momentarily on Twitter and if you aren’t careful you could end up with your name following some rather undesirable contacts.

Full marks to the Twitter moderators group though once they have been advised of these undesirables, they are gone so fast you can’t hear the “twep” as their feathers fly. But they are in an industry that perseveres and sooner or later another one will try to get in on the conversations.

A nice social network courtesy that always makes me feel welcome and warm is to receive a ‘thank you’ message from someone once I have clicked on their ‘follow’ button. I always think this is a very pleasant and good mannered thing to do and I seem to remember who has done it and when I see their tweets I am more inclined to see what they have to say. So apart from it being a nice courtesy, it’s also a great way to increase ones readership. And my experience to date is that they usually have something very interesting to say.

These are the Twitter members we all want to find and it seems the best way of finding these like minded people is to follow them back with a “thank you for the follow message.”

Twitter Followers and Your Business

January 24, 2010 by Robbie

Twitter Followers and Your Business
By Andrew M Nathan

What is the importance of having lots of Twitter followers?

Debates have raged back and forth on Twitter about quality versus quantity as Twitter has been used to monetize many businesses from Dell, Threadless, and Zappos to the countless number of small businesses using the service to increase their brand around the world. Here are the 2 reasons why having large numbers make sense and the 2 reasons why it all comes down to quality.

1. Big is not always better, unless it is perceived as better. Say what? For me having 20,000 followers is does not matter, except for the extra perceived business value that comes with the statement. That could be the tipping point for a business deal, partnership, etc. What I am saying is that it is not important to me, but it could be important to someone else and in the world of business that is important.

For example, you are in marketing and want to bring in a big company as a client. You have done a great pitch and maybe need one last item to sweeten the deal. They ask, “What do you know about social media?” Telling them that you have 20,000 followers on Twitter would be a great way to increase your potential with the company versus 1,000. Whether right or wrong perceived value comes from having these followers.

2. More eyeballs equals more money. In reality, most companies have still not fully transitioned from traditional marketing to social media. The reason this is important is because big business by and large still advertise their services and goods close to the way it was done 10, 15, and even 20 years ago. They view Twitter as a large free newspaper. Every post is an ad. Every tweet is a “special deal”.

Going with the ideas of traditional media, if you have an ad that goes out to 100,000 people and.1% call you back and buy your product then you are happy. Take that to the next level with social media. Instead of doing 1 ad that gets you 100 people buying your product, you can do 30 ads to 100,000 people and maybe 1000 people to buy your product that month. The funny thing is that to an extent that does bring in extra business, because you will always find someone to buy a quality product from an established brand. At the same time, I know that there are tremendous opportunity costs being lost.

So now that we have the argument for quantity, let us take a look at quality:

1. The key word here is social media. In order to get your word out you have to be social by building relationships. I know for a fact that I have not connected with every person that follows me. It is physically impossible. In reality I have probably spoken to about 30-40% of the people that follow me over the past year. That is still a lot of contact.

When you have 100 followers you can keep track and manage this effectively. On the flip side, I am writing this article at 5:30 in the morning and according to Twitter, the most recent 20 tweets happened in the last 5 seconds. Additionally while I am writing this 80 more tweets have just appeared in waiting for me to recycle them in and find out what those people have said.

2. Twitter was set up to be a place where people could build relationships. In the walls of the 140 character tweet lies immense power to change people’s view of the world and you. Additionally, one line is all it takes to connect you with someone in Indonesia, Australia, and England. The more relationships you can establish on these sites the more you will become successful.

Talking to someone as we discussed in the previous argument is great, building a friendship with someone across the ocean that you have never spoken to is a power that transcends imagination. It is also a power that leads to sales, referrals, and repeat business. People buy from those they like.

So which is better? That is for everyone reading this article to decide. In the end it will probably come down to a mixture of quantity and quality for most people. That is the great fun of Twitter, you decide your fate.

10 Businesses That Know How To Use Twitter

January 23, 2010 by Robbie
Filed under all new articles in here

Almost every business today has a Twitter strategy or is planning one. Not all of them do it the same way. Some are tweeting, some are just listening and some are doing both.

Direct

Many companies use Twitter as a marketing or public relations tool. They post accomplishments and distribute links that take people back to their web pages, press releases, and other promotional sites. You need to be careful about this – an authentic online community like Twitter doesn’t have patience for too many self-serving, self-promotional tweets.

Indirect

Other businesses use Twitter by letting their employees tweet. The thinking behind this is that a company’s reputation is enhanced indirectly.

Internal

Some companies use Twitter internally to share ideas or communicate about what projects they are working on. This is OK as long as the information is not confidential.

Inbound Signaling

Other businesses are Twitter “listeners.” Using search tools like search.twitter.com or apps like TweetDeck so they can keep track of what’s being said about them or their industry as a whole.

Here are 10 businesses that use all or some of the above mentioned methods and they do it in an effective and positive way:

  1. Southwest Airlines has entertaining discussions with their customers on their Twitter profile. They combine weather updates and any flight delays with fun and friendly conversation.
  2. Dell has a number of Twitter profiles – each tailored for different types of offers and deals. One of their profiles – DellOutlet – posts used computer specials.
  3. Starbucks participates in lively discussions with their followers. They offer promotions and discounts and they tweet their followers with information about in-store sales.
  4. Zappos has their entire staff communicating with customers via Twitter. @ Zappos features its CEO, Tony Hsieh and every Zappos’ employee has their own Twitter account. They have a leader board that ranks the employees according to the number of followers they have and the staff is encouraged to use the leader board and promote Zappos at the same time.
  5. JetBlue has a very good Twitter-based customer service profile. They even provide the customer support employee’s name who is on duty.
  6. ComCast offers a friendly Twitter customer support with real customer service representatives. This kind of interaction helps give Comcast a more humane and personal touch.
  7. Ford is a very good Twitterer. They initiated an entire marketing campaign for the launch of a new vehicle on Twitter and they have profiles for many divisions of their company.
  8. Home Depot uses Twitter to help their customers. They ask customers who are frustrated with the service they received at a local Home Depot to get on Twitter and chat with a spokesperson.
  9. Whole Foods Market recommends new food and invites them to upcoming store events. They are conversational and friendly – asking what their clients like to read and watch…and, of course, what they like to eat.
  10. Popeyes does a good job responding to client feedback in and they do it in a hip and cool way. They also tell their followers about current deals and discounts.

If your company is thinking about jumping on the Twitter bandwagon, don’t do it blindly. Look what other companies are doing – and then develop your own strategy. The return of investment a business gets on Twitter has yet to be realized, but the low cost of a social media network like this and the positive engagement you have with existing and prospective customers is well worth it.

A Better Tweeter in Twitter

Tweeters from all over the world want to learn how to become a better tweeter in Twitter. How will you do this?

Firstly, you need to learn how to ‘re-tweet’. You can definitely improve your standing in Twitter if you re-tweet. When one of your followers posts an appealing article, you can re-tweet it. If you do this, most of your followers will also do the same. Just imagine all your followers re-tweeting. When they add your username to their updates, you will be exposed to many users. Be careful in re-tweeting because you might not be posting interesting or helpful topics. Make sure that you re-tweet only the good ones. How can you re-tweet? You need to copy the original tweet and write the prefix RT together with the name of the originator.

Many users use Twitter to post tweets that no one is interested about. Who cares about what you ate for dinner or what you did last night. Perhaps your closest friends will appreciate that but what about the rest of the social community? It would be better if you send out informative tweets, no nonsense. By doing so, people will think of you differently. They will know and feel that you care one way or another. If you’re addressing your tweets to one person, try to indicate it so that others will know who you are referring to.

Send replies often. Talking all day long is possible through Twitter. If you want to talk, you’d better sign up to this social site. Followers like a person who knows how to listen. You will probably find yourself laughing at dumb tweets but you must restrain yourself. Twitter is an application that allows people to communicate; so matter how funny some tweets sound, try to appreciate them and reply courteously. Most of Twitter users want to be heard on the web and if they find individuals who know how to listen, they are more interested in making friends.

In order to tweet better, you must be proactive. Find some neat articles and helpful info online; when you find one, post it. Some might re-tweet it or you can find other users that are interested in meeting you.

You don’t need to say something all the time. Try to be careful in using your automatic messages and updates because you might be pestering others with uninteresting info. You can also try using hashtags. The keywords are preceded by # and in the past months, hashtags are really hot.

Use the tool Twitpic to upload pictures to your profile page. Try to upload as many pictures as you can but choose your pics well. Your pictures can tell a lot about you and other users will appreciate. Through the pics, your followers can get to know you better. According to expert tweeters, pictures can tell a lot about you as compared to the posts to send.

Follow these tips and be a better tweeter. Why not? You have nothing to lose. If you’re in new in Twitter, these tips can be very helpful. Don’t waste time anymore. Share neat stuff to your followers and your friends. Find interesting information or perhaps post promotional materials.
